Everton right-back Seamus Coleman has withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad due to injury and is returning to his club for treatment.
Republic of Ireland captain Coleman was substitute in the second half of Saturday’s 2-0 Nations League home defeat to England with an injury and is set to miss the next game against Greece.
The Football Association of Ireland has confirmed that Coleman has suffered a left ankle injury which will rule the 35-year-old right-back out of Tuesday’s UEFA Nations League clash with Greece and has withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad to return to Everton for treatment.
Coleman’s absence has prompted the call-up of right-back Festy Ebosele, who is on loan at Watford from Udinese for the 2024-25 season, to replace him. The 22-year-old has made three senior appearances for Ireland since last year.
Ebosele, who is call into the squad now, is currently on a season-long loan at Watford from Udinese, and has earn three caps for Ireland.
In Heimir Hallgrimsson’s debut as manager, Ireland struggled in a 2-0 loss to England on Saturday. They will aim to recover against a Greece side that previously beat them both home and away during the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
