Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is planning to stay at Anfield for at least another two years, as well as his participation in the 2026 World Cup.

The Mirror reports that Van Dijk wants to extend his contract with Liverpool and has no intention of leaving the Netherlands national team at this time because he aims to lead the team to play in the 2026 World Cup in North America at the very least.

Van Dijk is now 33 years old and has a contract with Liverpool that is in its final year, until June 30, 2025. Therefore, his goal in mind is to renew his contract with the club to reach at least the 2026 World Cup because his intention is to captain the Netherlands national team in the tournament that the United States, Canada, and Mexico are co-hosts.

“I’m still Virgil van Dijk, the main leader of both teams. I want to keep that leadership for the next two years. I’m human, I have emotions. You start thinking about things, especially after the last-minute game when we were eliminated [to England in the Euro 2024 semi-finals].”

“I understand that I have mixed feelings about it because after the game I was disappoint and full of emotions. It may have seemed like my last international game. I wasn’t sure myself that night.”

“It was nice to have a holiday the next day, spend time with my kids, Promotion Ufabet with my family, which is the most important thing in my life, to let my feelings out and everything calmed down quickly,” Van Dijk said.
